On Friday, 11 May 2018, the Informatics Engineering Education Department held a public lecture with “Image Processing and Application on Comic Analysis” as the theme, with the presenter from the Universite de La Rochelle, France, Prof. Jean-Christope Burie. This public lecture explains how humans see an object, the concept of digital photos, the factors that affect the quality of an image to how to implement all these aspects so that machines, in this case, are able to recognize a photo or digital image.
In addition, it is also explained about the research conducted by Prof. Jean-Christope Burie in applying this concept to analyze a comic, starting from recognizing panels, various dialogue boxes to being able to distinguish each character, both human and imaginative characters, and even being able to recognize the name of each character in comics, both Japanese and American comics. With this activity, it is expected to be able to open the horizons of informatics engineering education students, especially in understanding the concept of image processing and being able to apply the concepts that have been obtained.
