Jakarta, May 18, 2024 – Another international achievement has been recorded by students of the Informatics Engineering Education program at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha). This time, it comes from the World Science, Environment, and Engineering Competition (WSEEC). The team, consisting of Agus Sujana from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FTK), Nityaswari Laba from the Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS), Agus Sedana from FBS, and Ajiswara Laba from the Faculty of Medicine (FK), won a gold medal at the World Science, Environment, and Engineering Competition (WSEEC) organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Associations. This prestigious competition took place from May 13 to May 17, 2024, at Pancasila University, South Jakarta.
They captured the judges’ attention with their innovative creation: a mathematics game based on JavaScript. This mathematics game is a result of collaboration between numeracy and literacy, aimed at enhancing students’ mathematical knowledge through the introduction of Nusantara culture.
“Our work highlights mathematics learning integrated with the introduction of Nusantara stories. So, when students answer story-based questions, they are employing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) due to the combination of numeracy and literacy. All of this is packaged in a game created using JavaScript,” explained Agus Sujana.
In this game, students are not only faced with mathematical problems but also with stories from various regions in Indonesia, presented in engaging narratives. This allows students to learn mathematics while becoming familiar with the rich culture of Nusantara.
This victory is not only a source of pride for the team but also for the Informatics Engineering Education program. This achievement demonstrates that with innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, education in Indonesia can advance and become more engaging for students.
The coordinator of the Informatics Engineering Education program, Dr. phil. Dessy Seri Wahyuni, S.Kom., M.Eng., expressed her appreciation for this achievement. “This is a source of pride and motivation for all PTI students,” she said. She further noted that this achievement is crucial not only for increasing students’ competitiveness but also for enhancing the university’s reputation at both national and international levels.
